·         Plan / Design/ Develop / Deployment / Maintain Corporate Cognos BI Reporting system

a.       Full BI Data Cycle. Multiple data source OLTP data extract, clean, transform and loading into ODS, Corporate reporting system architect/design, plan, analysis, design ,develop, test, deployment, documentation, security

b.       Create virtual star schema using Cognos Framework Manager to do metadata multidimensional modeling and ROLAP design using DMR, 4 Layer modeling to ensure maximum scalability, determinant and conformed dimension to support multi-fact, multi-grain report

c.       Validate model to ensure there is no ambiguity for query path, carefully study Cognos SQL and native SQL to make sure the report is running in its most efficient manner, using SQL skills to tune sql execution plan, create index or materialized view on the DB side as needed to facilitate the report execution.

d.       Setup Corporate report standard , using  Layout component to build page template, shared prompt , establish naming convention, change control process

e.       Security control. Setup Active Directory as authentication provider, SSO , Implement Row Level Security using security filter  on the model level, Column Level Security on the report level.

f.         Use JavaScript to build standard shared prompt layout library, extending Cognos weak prompt control capabilities as interactive prompt and batch prompt

g.       Use Cognos SDK to develop some functions missing in existing FM and report studio

h.       Use Cognos Transformer to build MOLAP cubes

Migrating reports from Impromptu to Cognos 8, 500+ reports, reduce the number of reports to 200+ because of well designed model.

 

·         Develop Data Datamart  using Oracle 11g for sales analysis / forecast, budget

a.       ER model and dimensional schema(star schema) design, logical and physical data modeling

b.       Two tier application, 95% codes are implemented in oracle PL/SQL packages and Oracle Types(about 1 million source code lines), front end is using MS excel and VBA

c.       ETL process is done by using mixed Oracle ETL techniques including materialized view, scheduler, trigger , Oracle Advanced Queue, Oracle stored procedure, etc

d.       The ETL System is communicating  with production system(Oracle 10 ) and ERP system (AS400 DB2) using Oracle Heterogeneous Service through oracle database link

e.       sql/package tuning using profiler/tkprof trace, other tuning/develop methods include analytic functions, partition, collections, data binding, star query, index, native compiling, scalar  subquery, GTT , parallel query etc.

f.         Oracle Type OOP programming using anydata Advanced Queue for asynchronous trigger during the ETL process and batch job monitering
